The Netherlands' Biggest Nursery

In the past few years our nursery expanded to 11 hectares. Which makes us the biggest nurseryman for the Amaryllis bulb in the Netherlands.

Cultivation of a mature Amaryllis bulb takes at least two years. The Amaryllis bulbs are planted in the first year to reach maturity in the second. This two-year cycle - a permanent process - is the main activity of our growers. Mature bulbs are dug up between August and early December and prepared for sale.

Before Amaryllis bulbs reach the consumers, they undergo various treatments:
  • Drying in special climatic rooms at least one week before sorting.
  • Sorting according to size.
  • Some bulbs are given a cold treatment to influence flowering time, for Christmas for instance.
  • We can package the bulb in every conceivable way, depending on the customer's wishes.
Cultivation of Amaryllis bulbs is a very clean process. The use of chemicals is marginal. T. van Nieuwkerk Amaryllis fulfils the demands of the highest class of the Agriculture Quality Decree (Landbouw Kwaliteitsbesluit), regulated by the Bulb Inspection Service (BKD).
